It’s been an eventful summer for Local 277.
We’ve had our INTL OPEIU Convention where Becky Turner resigned as INTL VP of Region IV. Tyler Turner, our current president, was elected INTL VP of Region IV. It was a very heartfelt and meaningful moment for our union to see someone who has been raised with 277, who is now our leader become the leader of an entire region proudly holding our Local 277 name up. During this convention, we also earned two awards. One of the awards was for Organizing and the other was the “Voice of the Electorate” (VOTE) Award.
In the month of July, our President and members attended the Texas AFLCIO convention where Tyler Turner was re-elected onto the Executive Board. Our member, Patrick Watson (BookPeople Bargaining Unit), was on “Organizing to Grow the Movement” where he shared all his valuable insights and experiences with the rest of the movement in Texas. It was an amazing discussion!
At our August, our members unanimously voted to approve the merger of Local 277 and Local 298. A future union powerhouse also visited our local on the same day. She filled our building with smiles and giggles that lightened up the entire space. Check out the picture below to see our cute little Rosie the Riveter of Local 277 (#BabiesOf277).

By the way, our September General Membership meeting was cancelled due to the Labor Day Holiday. See y'all in October!
